I’m probably a bit late (I know I am), but I’ve finally read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. It was… something. I’m still working on that review, I’ll upload it soon, but I felt like posting something else first. There are so many things JK Rowling said and wrote over the years, but I decided to choose just ten quotes (with links to the source, you might want to read a whole interview) and bring them to your attention. And mine, to be honest… maybe I’ll finally pick up the Harry Potter series again and maybe even read some of her other novels. One can hope. If there are other quotes which drew your attention at some point, let us know. Enjoy!

“You have to resign yourself to wasting lots of trees before you write anything really good. That’s just how it is. It’s like learning an instrument. You’ve got to be prepared for hitting wrong notes occasionally, or quite a lot. That’s just part of the learning process. And read a lot. Reading a lot really helps. Read anything you can get your hands on.” (source)

Imagination is not only the uniquely human capacity to envision that which is not, and therefore the fount of all invention and innovation. In its arguably most transformative and revelatory capacity, it is the power that enables us to empathize with humans whose experiences we have never shared.” (source)

Writing for me is a kind of compulsion, so I don’t think anyone could have made me do it, or prevented me from doing it.” (source)

“My favorite writer is Jane Austen and I’ve read all her books so many times I’ve lost count. My favorite living writer is Roddy Doyle, who I think is a genius. I think they do similar things–create fully rounded characters, often without much or indeed any physical description, examine normal human behavior in a very unsentimental and yet touching way–and, of course, they’re FUNNY.” (source)

The Potter books in general are a prolonged argument for tolerance, a prolonged plea for an end to bigotry, and I think it’s one of the reasons that some people don’t like the books, but I think that it’s a very healthy message to pass on to younger people that you should question authority and you should not assume that the establishment or the press tells you all of the truth.” (source)

“I kept being asked whether I would make a musical and I don’t like musicals. Theatre, on the other hand, I love. I find it a seductive world – there is nothing like seeing an actor perform live.” (source)

“I think you have a moral responsibility, when you’ve been given far more than you need, to do wise things with it and give intelligently.” (source)

“There is an expiry date on blaming your parents for steering you in the wrong direction; the moment you are old enough to take the wheel, responsibility lies with you.” (source)

“The world is full of wonderful things you haven’t seen yet. Don’t ever give up on the chance of seeing them.” (source)

“You will never truly know yourself, or the strength of your relationships, until both have been tested by adversity. Such knowledge is a true gift, for all that it is painfully won, and it has been worth more than any qualification I ever earned.” (source)
