Its birth tore it apart in a blistering furnace.
In the aftermath, meteors, cosmic rays and the light of distant stars have marked its surface.
The Mighty Jupiter and Saturn could have easily made it one of their own,
Could have easily wrapped it asunder and its magnificence we would have never known.
Our world could have been very different,
Not just geographically and geologically, but lost some marvelous written content.
We owe it such a great deal,
We owe our hearts, our minds, our zeal,
We owe it our nights’ mysteries which we seek to unseal.
We owe you, dear Moon!
And should be thankful that you won’t be leaving us anytime soon.
